Quantitative Methods im SS 12
The course Quantitative Methods is divided into two parts with a different emphasis on each. Part one (Statistics with SPSS) deals with statistical tests and part two (Quantitative Methods in Economics) covers the empirical analysis of international trade.

Within the framework of the empirical analysis of regional foreign trade structures, students will become familiar with using quantitative methods. First, students will analyze regional structures in foreign trade relations and examine their changes over time. After that, the regional structure of foreign trade will be explained by empirically analyzing political, economical and cultural distances. Quantitative tools range from calculating simple operating figures to different multivariate analyses. Empirical analysis will be made by SPSS.
Discussion and lecture
For a successful completion of this part of the course "Quantitative Methods" (3 credits) students will have to write a tutorial paper that extends the empirical results of the lecture. Grade will contribute 50% to the overall grade in Quantitative Methods.
